Earlier in the day, Peter had promised Jesus that unlike the other disciples, he would never abandon Jesus, even if he had to die. However, while the chief priests condemn Jesus at His trial, Peter keeps his distance. A servant girl then recognizes him, but Peter denies knowing His Savior three times, cursing and swearing in fear. A rooster crows and Peter weeps as he remembers how Jesus predicted this would happen. While Peter lied to save himself, Jesus died to save sinners like Peter.
