After heading to the Mount of Olives, Jesus told the disciples there that they would all desert Him, just as was written in the Scripture. But Peter refuses to accept this, insisting that he would not do so. Jesus tells him that not only would he do so that night, but before a rooster crows twice, Peter would deny Christ three times. After Jesus is arrested, Peter follows at a distance to the courtyard of the high priest. But when confronted by others about his relationship to Jesus, he quickly denies knowing Him thrice - precisely as Jesus had said. Upon remembering those remarks from Jesus towards him, Peter weeps.
