Naomi loses her husband and sons in Moab, and heads back to Israel. Ruth, her Moabite daughter-in-law, promises to stay with Naomi even though their lives as widows will be difficult, especially for a foreigner. Ruth comes to a field to collect leftover grain and meets the owner, Boaz. Boaz is kind and generous to Ruth and happens to be a family redeemer. Through a nighttime meeting, Ruth asks Boaz to marry her, which he agrees to; the next morning, the matter is settled in the city with the elders. God brings together Boaz and Ruth and blesses Naomi with a grandson through their marriage. And so, God continues the line of David and Jesus through Ruth, a Moabite.
