Hebrews 11:17-27, Examples of Faith

This sermon series covers the devotions and Sunday sermon at our annual family camping trip. The examples of faith we saw revolved around the God whom the men of faith believed: 1) Abraham believed in the power of God (Heb. 11:17-19), 2) Isaac and Jacob believed in the providence of God (Heb. 11:20-21), 3) Joseph believed in the promise of God (Heb. 11:22), and 4) Moses believed in the reward of God (Heb. 11:23-27).

Hebrews 11:4-10, Examples of Faith

Throughout our devotions together over the weekend camping trip, we give attention to four examples of faith: Abel worshipped God (11:4), Enoch pleased God (11:5-6), Noah listened to God (11:7), and Abraham hoped in God (11:8-10). All of these were acts of faith, teaching us how men of old exercised their faith in the LORD and how He accepted and approved of their acts of faith. May the Lord evermore build us up to live as men and women of faith who know how to trust in our God and live by faith not by sight.

Hebrews 11:1-3, Biblical Faith

What is faith according to the Bible? This is a pivotal question since the nature of our faith makes all the difference as to whether we truly belong to the Lord, whether we are recipients of His blessing, whether we are forgiven of our sins, and whether we possess eternal life. In this kickoff study to our four-part devotions during our annual vacation together (“Examples of Faith” from Hebrews 11:4-10), we examine the definition of biblical faith, how that is proven by the examples of faith, and what is the fundamental starting point of that faith. May the Lord ground us and strengthen us in true biblical faith which is based on God’s self-revelation to us in His faithful word.

Hebrews 10:19-27, Three Treasures in Christ (Part 4)

In this final study of this text (vv. 26-27, we consider the severe warning against conscious unrepentance. The dangers of such response (non-response) to the truth of God is to die with no forgiveness of sins and to have God as one’s enemy. This section of Scripture brings up two very important questions. Is this Scripture saying that one can lose their salvation? How about a person who is weak and without self-control, what are they to do to avoid conscious unrepentance? Listen to learn more.

Hebrews 10:19-27, Three Treasures in Christ (Part 3)

With the third treasure in Christ (the gift of the church), God gives us a duty to consider one another (the church) for the purpose of stimulation unto love and good works. There is work for us to do in this life. God saved us from our sins to labor for the Lord, and we hear the calling of our beloved Father to labor alongside each other and ensure that no one is slack in their service to the Lord as we keep our eyes toward the coming of Christ, for whom we want to be ready as a bride for her husband.

Hebrews 10:19-27, Three Treasures in Christ (Part 2)

In this second installment from Hebrews 10:19-27, we consider the second treasure of heaven which Christ has won for us at the cross. We are called to hold fast the confession of our hope (of heaven, that is) without wavering (firmly), for He who promised is faithful. May the Lord grant us wisdom to hold fast this biblical hope of our eternal inheritance in heaven and live as eschatologically minded people.
