The Philistines and Israelites come face to face, and Goliath, the champion of the Philistines, issues a challenge. He’ll fight any man of Israel one on one. King Saul and the armies of Israel are afraid of Goliath’s stature and words. David comes to deliver food for his brothers and reacts differently to Goliath’s words - David decides to fight, putting his trust in the LORD. The LORD has delivered David from lions and bears as a shepherd. So what is a mere Philistine against the LORD? The LORD does use David to defeat Goliath, and the Philistines run away in fear in a reversal of the starting situation. Isn’t God good to deliver His people?
